My husband and I stood at the sushi buffet, loading up our respective plates with one of just about everything. A little girl, maybe six or eight years old, approached and surveyed the offerings. Figuring she was curious, and maybe grossed-out, I considered telling her that everything there was exceptionally good and suggesting that she give it a try. I held back though. She's not my kid, I reasoned. What if her parents caught her eating raw fish and freaked out?
What I'd mistaken for morbid curiosity turned out to be an appraisal and search for a favorite. When my husband and I moved out of her way a little bit, she got down to business. Picking up a plate, she politely addressed the woman behind the counter.
"Excuse me," she said "do you have any spicy tuna?"
Coolest. Kid. Ever.
